Recipes for little tums

If you have been following my blog for a while you will know that weaning was one of my biggest fears as a first time mum. I was so paranoid about choking I would dread meal times and would literally feel sick while feeding Ava. I even cried once. True story.

The biggest issue for me was that if Ava choked I wouldn't have a clue what to do. So I went onto Youtube and watched some baby first aid videos and now I feel that if the situation ever did arise (god forbid) I would be able to act quickly and calmly. 

One of the videos that really helped me was this one:



 Along the way I followed some recipes from Annabel Karmel, I've said before how brilliant I think she is and her meals are so quick and easy (and super tasty too). Super fan over here. Ava is at the stage where she wants to feed herself so I thought I would share with you guys one of her favourite meals.


Annabel Karmel's Chicken Burgers
(Suitable from 10 months)

You will need:

1tbsp Olive Oil
1/2 small onion, peeled & finely chopped
1 small garlic clove, peeled & crushed
225g (8oz) minced chicken (mix of breast & thigh meat)
4 fresh sage leaves, chopped (FYI I don't use these)
1/4 eating apple peeled & grated
20g (3/4) fresh breadcrumbs (1 medium slice of bread)
20g (3/4) Parmesan cheese, freshly grated
vegetable oil for frying

Let's make some burgers:
  •  Heat the olive oil in a small pan and saute the onions and garlic gently stirring for 2 mins. Allow to cool. (I use my hand blender to chop the onion & garlic, so must easier than fiddling with a knife)
  • In a bowl mix the chicken with the sage, apple and breadcrumbs. Stir in the onion, garlic & Parmesan. (I only use chicken breast and also use my hand blender to chop it up.)
  • Using your hands shape the mixture into 12 small patties
  • Heat a little veg oil in a frying pan and brown the burgers for 1-2 mins on each side. Turn the heat down to low and cook the burgers for about 5 mins until cooked through. To test the burgers push the point of a knife through the centre of one of the burgers. Hold for 5 seconds and remove. The blade should feel burning hot. If not cook for a little longer.
And there you have it. Tasty, healthy burgers made in about 20 minutes. I usually serve Ava's with broccoli and peas. And you can also freeze them which is super handy.
