Things I love in July

Each month I have decided to share with you 5 things that I love. From beauty to baby product.

Here are my pick for July:

1) Jo Malone Nectarine Blossom & Honey Cologne.

I had not intended to buy this, that is why I bought the small bottle, but oh how I love it. I bought it at the airport on our way to Tenerife, I had full intentions of buying the Estée Lauder "Bronze Goddess" after hearing the rave reviews, unfortunately it was not to be as they had sold out, however it did give me the opportunity to discover this little gem. I took my time sniffing the different colognes before settling on my choice. It's fresh, fruity and very summery. It's been my go-to scent this Summer and I will definitely be purchasing again. The bigger bottle this time!

2) Marmalade of London scented candle- Pomegranate & Pear

I love a good scented candle and Marmalade of London do not disappoint. Nathan bought this one for me as a gift not knowing that I'd had my eye on these little beauties for a while. Pear & Pomegranate sounds like an odd mix doesn't it, but it honestly smells incredible. So much so that I don't want to light it in case I waste it! They have a wide selection of scents in various other forms so if you're looking for a good quality home fragrances check them out.

3) Palmers Cocoa Butter-Natural Bronze

I love fake tan. I'll just put that out there. I always feel healthier when I have a nice glow but to be honest, since having Ava I just can't be bothered with the mess. I've tried most brands and I have my favourites but I've never been a great lover of the gradual moisturiser types. However after reading a lot of great reviews and having heard the price tag (£5.35, online in Boots for £2.67 at the moment, just saying), I threw caution to the wind and bought some. It went on like a dream, thick and creamy but it absorbs well. I must admit I wasn't sold on the smell, rather strong and biscuity. But I put up with it to see the end result. I was very impressed. I had a lovely tan and no streaks in sight! Plus the moisturiser left my legs nice and smooth. I will definitely be repurchasing this one.

3) Zara Baby

I know, Zara Baby again! I think I should start receiving commission for the amount I blab on about them. Anyway, we've bought Ava something else (well three things actually but these are my favourite). With the ongoing heatwave my poor girl only had 2 pairs of shorts so Nath did his daddy duties and bought her a couple more pairs and a sun hat from the Zara baby sale. These were £6.99 down from £14.99 and far too cute to leave. If you love them too they still have a few more sizes that you can pick up here, but hurry, things are going like hot cakes.

5) Sinful Colors nail polish in Unicorn

Like many other people I've been loving the colour yellow this Summer and I asked Nath for a "pale yellow" nail polish for my birthday. This is what he bought for me. I love the colour, it's exactly what I was thinking, I've never heard of this brand before but Nathan tells me he bought it in Boots for a mere £1.99! It's great quality too, granted you need 2 layers to achieve the colour but it's very chip resistant. A bargain!

So those are my 5 favourites this month, do you have any of these products? What do you think of them?

I do love to be beside the seaside

We have some lovely beaches in the UK, shame that we rarely get the change to enjoy them due to the generally rubbish weather! However for the last two weeks the weather has been beautiful and we wanted to make the most of it.

Unfortunately I pulled my back last week and was off work but after some physio on Friday I felt 100 times better and was raring to go. Yesterday Nath and I took Ava to Barmouth and the weather was amazing. Ava loved the beach when we were in Tenerife and as soon as she saw the sea she started getting very excited.

We explored the small town which was full to the brim of tea shops and little shops selling plastic buckets and fishing nets. We had a milkshake and Ava just had to have a windmill and a ball...

We played on the penny machines in the arcade and had the best fish & chips I've ever tasted on the promenade. I think they generally just taste better at the seaside.

We paddled in the sea, collected seashells and made castles that were quickly knocked down by an over enthusiastic toddler...

Needless to say we didn't want to come home, Nath said he wished we were staying the night. It's not too far from us and (weather permitting) is a lovely day out.

We've got a lot coming up in the next few weeks so it was nice to take some time out just the three of us.

Ava wears in July

If you follow me on Instagram you'll know that I'm always buying or being gifted new clothes for Ava. I especially can't resist Zara! I 'm bordering on a woman obsessed!

Below are a few of the outfits Ava has been wearing lately.

 Tshirt-Bluezoo/Jeans- Zara Baby/ Cardigan-Hand knit/ Shoes-Nike Blazers/ Hat- Next

Don't worry I'm not into child cruelty, Ava wore this outfit before the beginning of this heatwave. The tshirt was a gift from Nathan's sister, it's so darn cute and the jeans were in the Zara sale. I couldn't resist, I wouldn't mind a pair for myself. The cardigan was hand knit for us, unfortunately not by me. My hand are not so nimble.

Jumpsuit- H&M/ Tshirt- Primark/ Sandals-Zara/ Hat-Next

Nath says she looks like a farmer in this hat but I like it. The jumpsuit is very thin so it is perfect on cooler sunny days.

Dress- Zara/ Sandals-Zara

I absolutely love this little dress, it was bought for Ava's first birthday by my best friend. The lace detail is just gorgeous and I love the pop of colour from the sandals.

Shoes-Zara

I spotted these bad boys on the  Zara website a while ago and lust was born. Unfortunately at the time I couldn't justify the price tag but when I saw them in the sale I snapped them right up! They're currently too big for Ava but I'm imagining them with some red jeans and a white jumper.

Dress- M&Co

Sorry for the crappy picture, she was running around and this is the best I could do. This dress is adorable, again another gift for her 1st birthday. It's always been a little big and this was it's first outing. Isn't it sweet!

Tshirt-Zara

Again, another Zara number (told you I'm obsessed). I couldn't resist popping into the Zara we spotted in Tenerife. We just had to get her this tshirt, the slogan is very apt.

Dress-Bluezoo/ Hat-Next

I find Bluezoo's clothing a little hit and miss but when they get it right, I love it. My gran bought this dress for Ava and I adore it. It's one my favourite outfits on her. I love the ruffled of the shoulder straps and the way that the blue really brings out her eyes.

So there you have it. What do you think? Which outfit do you like the best?

A Tour of Ava's Nursery

I've been wanting to put this post together for a while but with a combination of buying a Canon camera yesterday and being at home with a bad back today it felt like the perfect time to get this post up and running.

The photos are not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, I am no photographer and this was my first attempt at playing with my camera. I'm happy with the results and I think they do her bedroom justice. Ava's nursery is my favourite room in the house.

Her room is a mixture of primrose yellow walls, soft pinks and all white furniture with a mix of soft toys and Beatrix Potter.

I love adding little bits to her room, I'm currently on the hunt for a cute cushion for her armchair and a new lampshade. The latest addition to Ava's room is this gorgeous bookcase from Great Little Trading Company. I've only recently been aware of them and I absolutely love everything! Check them out, I'm sure you'll love them as much as I do.

Ava's cotbed is from Mamas & Papas, she loves her stuffed toys and we can often hear her chattering away to them when she wakes up in the morning.

We are very lucky to have very generous friends and family and Ava has been spoilt with some beautiful things.

The following gifts were from Not On The High Street which I think is a great website if you are looking for unique, personalised gifts.

So there you have it. I hope you enjoyed having a look around Ava's room.

I'd love to know what you think.

My top "holiday with a toddler" tips

Hi everyone!

As you will know we recently returned from a holiday in Tenerife which you can read more about here.

This wasn't Ava's first holiday, last year when she was 6 months old we took her to Cyprus but it was so different this time, mainly because A) she is now walking and B) she is very determined.

I wanted to share some things that I found useful on this holiday:

1- The flight. I won't lie to you, the flight to Tenerife was awful. I thought that we had it sussed, plenty of snacks, toys, her milk and her PJs to change her into. She would sleep and it would be a piece of cake right? Wrong! She did not want to sleep, she wanted to raul about in the cramped space that is an Easy jet aircraft. Oh how I longed for extra leg room. The tip, well we did take DVD player with us but us being us we hadn't charged it enough (doh), however, it did help in the room. All I can say is, take plenty of distractions and if that fails, they like to roam the aisles...

2- Pool wear. We spent money on cute swimsuits from Next but in hindsight all she needed was a swimming nappy, a tshirt, her hat and jelly shoes. The jelly shoes were fantastic, I highly recommend them. They stopped her from slipping in the pool and protected her little toes when she went paddling in the stony sea. Take a couple of hats for the pool, Ava only had one which she smeared with chocolate ice cream on the first day and it often fell in the pool leaving it sopping wet. I always made sure I had at least two tshirts in her changing bag ready to change her as soon as she got out of the pool.

3-Ponchos. Don't worry I don't mean the ones that are more commonly worn with a sombrero, I mean those cute towelling ones you can get for around the pool. I found these great, Ava was in and out of the pool so often they were so handy to throw on her when she got out to keep her warm and dry.

4- Reins. These were a lifesaver. Ava loves to trot off on her own and she's blummin quick. I wanted to get her the reins with the little rucksack on the back but my mum pointed out that on holiday she would be too warm with it on her back. We bought some from John Lewis in the end and they did the trick. They were also super handy to tie her into the highchair in the hotel as it had no straps.

5-Jelly shoes. The best £4 I have ever spent. Ava wore them everywhere and is still wearing them now. They keep her feet cool and enclosed, she has a pair of pretty sandals that she wears for occasions but jelly shoes are the way forward. Believe me.

6- Snacks. Ava didn't eat much on holiday. It was hot and she was teething, I'm so glad that we took little snacks for her to eat when she felt a bit peckish. Raisins, rice cakes, pom bears, rusks... So handy to have and you can keep them in the room if you don't have a fridge.

7- Suncream with insect repellent. Those mozzies and midges are right little blighters, most insect repellents aren't suitable for little ones either so these are great.

8- An array of sun hats.  Ava had 2 hats one for pool activities and another for non-pool activities. In hindsight I should have taken 2 hats (at least) for the pool. Ava enjoys trying to dunk her head under the water so I'd take a few if I were you.

9-Milk. Luckily Ava drank the milk abroad with no problem but I would take powdered milk if this is something you are unsure of.

10- Just a little tip for you parents. Don't bother taking any books, magazines or kindles because you probably won't get time to read them...

I hope that some of these tips help you a little. Are you planning a holiday this year?

A Crazy week

Hello everyone,

I know, I've been such a rubbish blogger this week, but what a week it's been! It was my birthday on Wednesday and I'm not ashamed to say the festivities carried on right through the week.

A while ago I mentioned that Nathan had bought us tickets to watch my favourites, Kings of Leon, in concert. Unfortunately the date clashed with our holiday and we had to sell them. I was gutted! But Nathan surprised me with tickets to see them on Tuesday at the LG arena in Birmingham. They were flawless, completely amazing! Such a brilliant gift.

On Wednesday, my actual birthday, I had a lot of visitors and some lovely gifts. I'm very excited to be looking around for a new camera and was lucky enough to receive some money to help me on my way.

On Friday we had a celebratory birthday meal at Sweeney Hall Hotel. It's a beautiful place with a great big garden that Ava loved to run around in.

And yesterday we had a barbecue at our house for around 18 friends. I had SUCH a  good time and did wake up with a bit of a hangover today. I literally danced until my feet hurt and was bought lots of Sambuca shots by the naughty boys! Nath spent so much time working on the garden and it totally paid off. It looked great.

Oh and just a little message to Eddie and Stig... thanks for stealing the camera guys, found lots of beauties on it today including this one.

So there we go, that's why I've been AWOL this week but I have lots of posts planned.

What have you been up to this week?
