The Ordinary moments- Winging it

Saturday's are always interesting in our house. Nath works then plays football so I'm usually completely winging it, as per usual.

I've been a mother for almost three years and one thing I have learnt is that no one else knows what the hell they're doing either!

My sister-in-law has just had her first baby and they have only been home for 2 days. It bought back SO many memories, On Saturday she came over to Nath's mum and dad's (where we are living at the moment), it just reminded me of how scary those Ordinary Moments were and how unsure I was, but looking back now, having been through it and survived, I want those moments back.

I've been thinking to myself, how on earth did I do that?! How did I make it through the first year with a child without breaking it?

All those people who get on their soapboxes and tell you what you shouldn't and shouldn't do, ignore those people. They were once wingers too, deep down they still are, but are too proud to admit it.

I've realised that motherhood goes through so many different stages, once I think I've conquered one stage another comes along and throws me. So I wing it again!

I thought I'd kicked the terrible two's butt until the threenager stage. And this is a whole different ball game. I'm not a perfect mother by any means, I'm one who likes her sleep for one thing, so when the threenager wakes at 5.30am she'll often be given the iPhone to watch YouTube videos while I catch some extra zzz, sometimes I'll give her chocolate if she's whining, sometimes we go out of the house without me having brushed her hair, because quite frankly, no one needs the screams of a banshee down one's lughole at 7.00am.

But although I won't be winning any awards for the perfect mother any time soon, I think I do ok. Ava is happy and I give her my time and more importantly my love.

I think people can get too caught up in what is right and wrong but honestly, do what is best for you. Do what you think suits you and your child and what makes you both happy because at the end of the day these naysayers aren't there when the shizz hits the fan!

Motherhood is the hardest thing you will ever do, 100% but it's bloody well worth it. And that's a professional winger talking. So savour those Ordinary Moments, the ones when you start to feel confident or even the ones when you don't have a clue (me, always) because those moments don't come back and before you know it your baby will be a baby no more.

The Threenager

The threenager, it sounds like the title of a ghastly horror flick doesn't it?! Well it flipping well should be!

In just under three weeks, Ava turns three and I'd often heard the term "threenager" used but, much like the terrible two's, I didn't really think it was a thing, until it happened!

So what is a threenager I hear you cry, unless you have one of your own, in which case you're probably crying into a vase of wine somewhere.

The description above is basically it. My toddler is acting out like a hormonal teen and it is not for the faint hearted.

This includes:

Selective hearing, I'm having to repeat most things at least three times (it drives me insane)

Saying "what?!" ALL the time- Usually when I've repeated something for the 10th time

Kevin the teenager like huffing

Kevin the teenager like pouting

Calling me Mum (?!) I'm still mummy for a good few years yet thank you!

Tantrums if she is not allowed on the iPhone (to watch those stupid Kinder egg videos)

Being picky with her clothes, at the moment she hates wearing skirts. Much to my dismay.

Being picky with her food

The list goes on!

Below are some pouty examples posted to my Instagram account. Now of course, you'll understand that being my Instagram account it's kept very pretty and the bad stuff is filtered out.

Unfortunately this can't be filtered. This is a behind the scenes glance, a very attractive snap of a threenager in action. One of the many pictures I sent to my husband that night. I can't even remember why she had such an epic meltdown!

It's exhausting!! I'm beginning to think that the terrible two's were just a warm up act. I'm getting the wine in, who's joining me?!

An exciting week!

So after all the talk of us hopefully signing for our new house, but it all being extremely vague and mysterious, yesterday we finally signed the contracts. So the end is in sight! Our solicitor has said we'll definitely be in by the end of the month so that has been music to my ears!

We're also had a brand new addition to the family today in the form of my newborn nephew. He was born this morning, two weeks early, weighing 7lbs3 and we're all very much in love with the little guy who is yet to be named. The three of us went to see him this evening and I was amazed at how alert he was, and also how fab my sister-in-law looked considering she'd had a two hour labour.

I think it's the beginnings of a beautiful friendship between Ava and little man, and also practice for Ava when a possible sibling should come along, no hints but I am super broody now!

Yesterday I also filmed a little daily vlog given that it's my day off. I'd forgotten what a mission editing is but it's now done, phew. I'm planning on doing another this weekend so do let me know if you like that sort of thing? Daily vlogs are my favourite as I'm terribly nosey.

All in all this week has kicked last week's butt. This weekend I have a little upcycling project planned and Nath is taking me out for a belated Valentine's day lunch on Sunday. Do you have any Valentine's day plans?

The Ordinary Moments- Cuddles

This week I'm linking up with the Ordinary Moments

There was once upon a time, when Ava was a little baby, I would get daily cuddles. I'd let my sweet newborn bundle sleep on my chest and just sit, completely still. Stroking her soft downy hair and breathing in her sweet newborn smell. Fast forward to almost 3 years and my girl is a baby no more. She a very strong willed, clever toddler and the days of her falling asleep on my chest are long gone, I'm lucky if I get a kiss nowadays.

I mentioned in this post that this week has been pretty rubbish, I've been ill for a while and that coupled with some bad news left me feeling pretty low. After a long, tedious day in work on Thursday I threw my old faithful dressing gown on over my clothes (!) and took a seat on the sofa next to Ava. She'd not long woken up from a late afternoon nap and was extremely snuggly, much to my absolute delight.

We stayed in the same position, with me daring not to breath or twitch, for a good 15 minutes, it was utter bliss. I wish I'd savoured those newborn moments when they were happening. I seemed to lose myself in a hazy sleepless drowse and a tangle of bottle feeds and nappy changes. How I wish I could go back now, knowing how quickly it goes by. I curse myself sometimes for life getting in the way of motherhood-if that makes sense. Like menial tasks such as washing up and ironing, I wish I had a clock to freeze time.

I read Katie's "The Countdown" post this week and it really struck a cord with, Although we're not yet approaching the school days I know that they are inevitable and I completely related to Katie, and shed a few tears!

I hope that these cuddles will become a weekly thing.

Interior decorating ideas- Living room

If you saw yesterday's post with our exciting news, you'll know that we are soon to (hopefully) get the keys for our new house, although this process has taken a lot longer than I thought it would.

As you can imagine I've been pinning ideas over on Pinterest like a crazy woman so I thought I would share with you some of the ideas I have.

We've agreed that the first room we'll tackle will be the living room, we'll slowly but surely get all of the house decorated and re-done in some way but all in time- I keep repeating this mantra to myself, I'm very impatient and want it all to be done right now!

I'm obsessed with grey, I think I would go as far as to say it's my favourite colour. I think Grey is perfect for any room in a house, it can be jazzed up with splashes of bright colour or be kept neutral with added white accessories which is my plan. I love the grey silver toned paint on my mood board below.

I've been obsessively scouring the internet for living room ideas and I'm pretty much basing it around the main picture in my mood board which I of course found on Pinterest. It's the same shape as our new living room, although our living room currently has a black electric fire fitted into the chimney breast that I want  taken out. The previous owners have told us that they installed it but it never gets used as the house holds heat well and it gets very warm in the living room. Plus it doesn't go with the colour scheme so it needs to go! I still want a mantelpiece as I want to be able to display photos or candles.

I love the idea of alcove storage. It would be ideal for us as Nath has SO many DVDs and I have a collection of book. It would add extra storage without us having to buy big units that would get in the way. We'll probably have to get them built to fit, I'm not sure how we'd fit our ridiculously large TV onto it though. Why do men always have to choose the biggest TV in the shop?!

I want to get some curtains to add something to the room and these ones from Next are perfect. I love the zigzag design and they're the right shade.

I am obsessed with this light! I saw the exact same one in a light shop in my hometown but this one from Wayfair is a fraction of the price, I definitely need it in my life. It's so quirky and different

These stag's head hessian cushion's from Not on the Highstreet would be ideal on our grey sofa.  If you remember our wedding decor you'll know that I have a bit of a thing for hessian.

I'm also planning on doing some upcycling which I'm pretty excited about. My first project will be our old wooden coffee table which has a glass panel in the middle. It's currently a light pine colour but with the help of blogger's favourite, Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, I'm going to paint it white.

What do you think of my ideas?

Some exciting news

These last 4 weeks have been testing to say the least! I've have a cold for the last 4 weeks, which despite all of my best efforts is still sticking around and life has been very unbalanced lately.

Basically we've been living with my in-laws for the past four weeks, hence the lack of blog posts which I'm finding hugely frustrating! We are in the process of buying our first family home which has happened a lot sooner than we thought, so not only is that incredibly exciting, I have to admit that I'm getting a little cross at how long it's all taking to go through. It's the first time we've ever bought a house so I'm not aware of the process, but it's no chain and we put our offer in before Christmas, surely we should be moving in soon?!!

We're so excited to move in and get decorating! I have so many ideas buzzing around in my head that I just can't wait to see it all come to life. The house desperately needs dragging in to the 21st century but it's all aesthetics, nothing needs ripping out or knocking down. Phew!

Some interior inspiration from a recent Pinterest spree!

We knew that we wanted to buy a house sometime this year but as soon as we found out about this house being on the market we knew we had to snap it up, it was an offer too good to miss! It's perfect for us, three bedrooms, large kitchen, front and back garden and only four doors down from Ava's future primary school. I'm so excited!

I think you can tell how excited I am from the amount of times I've written "excited"!

With us living with my in-laws, which is above a pub, it's been tricky to set up blog posts like I have done in the past, plus the fact the weather has been so awful! I'm planning to do some interior posts when we move which will be a new task for me and I want to start vlogging again. Possibly some homeware hauls and I want to start vlogging my weekends with Ava, as Nath works and plays football we usually get a Saturday just the two of us so to vlog it could be quite fun.

In other news my healthy eating has gone well out of the window this week! I think the fact that I've been ill and have been feeling a bit rubbish saw me demolish a tub of Ben & Jerry's in two days, a meal out with friends (which obviously included pudding) lots of cups of tea and biscuits and a wood fire pizza to finish off the week this evening! Oops. Ava and I enjoyed a lovely day out together on Wednesday, in an effort to find something a little different and indoors, I took her to Rascals Retreat near Wrexham. A lovely little craft workshop where she painted a couple of pottery animals and we made something for Nath's birthday. It was lovely to do something like that together, I treated her to lunch and she ended up coming out for dinner with my friends and I.

I can't wait to start things up again on this little space of mine! Thank you for bearing with me,
